How to tube a flower
the original tutorial was created by Sussuluz
several methods exist
This tutorial does not claim to be the best method, it simply offers you a  way to proceed
Then, you will find your own settings, your tips...
If you tube, again and again, you will find the best way « for you » ; the method that suits you best
Thanks to Sussuluz for sharing her knowledge, and for her permission to translate her work

(translator’s note : you must have a good knowledge of PSP to follow this tutorial
I work with PSP 17 , but you can use another version
you’ll need to be patient !!)
Remember to save your work regularly to avoid « accidents », and having to start all over again.

take this beautiful image that will be our image to tube
the dimensions : 800  *  600 pixels

Use the pencil to follow the steps
left click to grab it

Etape 1
layers/promote background layer
rename it « tube »

Step 2
select all around the image using the freehand selection tool/point to point

Step 3
hit the delete key of your keyboard

selections/select none
rename this layer « tube »

Step 4
layers/new raster layer (add 2 layers)
rename these layers « light background » and « dark background »
arrange these layers under the tube in the layers palette
in this tutorial, I used pink for the light background and dark blue for the other one

Step 5
activate the freehand selection tool with the following settings

Step 6
activate the layer of the tube, zoom in as much as possible and « clean up » the image,
delete bit by bit the background of the image

do this work all around the flower

Step 7
It remains a part of the background between the leaves, in the middle of the image
layers/new raster layer, rename this layer « replacement »

Step 8
zoom out to visualise the parts you want to remove

Step 9
with the dropper tool, select a color of the stems, where you’re going to redraw them
set this color as foreground in the materials palette, and close the background

Step 10
activate the pen tool with the following settings

redraw the stems and the thorns, drawing small lines ;
make sure to change the color,
using the dropper tool, according to the part of the image you are redrawing

this work wil be useful to recover the real outlines of the image
because when « cleaning » the image, some details are going to disappear

Step 11
once you have redrawed all the details, close the eye of the layer « replacement » and activate the « tube »
delete the grey background of the image with the freehand selection tool/point to point

Step 12
open the eye of the « replacement » layer and activate it
layers/arrange/move down
zoom in as much as possible, and erase the flaws you might notice

Step 13
the layer « replacement » is the active layer
activate the Pen Tool with the following settings

redraw the stems, leaves and thorns with the colors used previously
use the dropper tool to do this work
notice :  It is best to avoid redrawing the contours of the petals to keep the natural and soft look
redraw only small details if necessary

to check out some of these flaws, play with the visibility of the dark and light  backgrounds
if you use the dark background, the light flaws are more apparent

activate the tube and clean up the flaws, or redraw the lines of the « replacement » layer
these light shadows must disappear

Step 15
close the eyes of the light and dark backgrounds and merge visible
the petals have not been redrawed, you can use the Soften Tool to blur the edges

open the visiblilty of the dark background
activate the « tube » and soften the edges of the petals

Step 16
it is important to make sure there is no « floaties » left (small pixesl you cannot see but.. they exist  !!)
the method to find these floaties is always the same
it is essential to do this work if you want to get a good quality
selections/select all
with the freehand selection tool, click anywhere on the image
and the « tube » is automatically selected

Step 17
zoom in as much as possible, and erase all the floaties, flaws, ....
using the freehand selection tool/point to point

use these settings

don’t hesitate to do this work several times until you are satisfied

translator’s note : I always add a border of 20 pixels to my canvas (image/canvas size)
to prevent the image from touching the edges of the frame
small defects often hide near this frame

Step 18
you can now delete the dark and light backgrounds
add a layer to apply your watermark

Step 19
file/save as... and give a name to your tube after having chosen its folder
save your work as...type PSP
make sure your work is compatible with all versions of PSP

note : this work is to do once and for all in your psp. This setting remains valid subsequently
